Homœopathy is a 250-year-old system of therapeutics founded by a German doctor, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, himself an allopath - M.D. Physician, based on the theory ‘Like cures Like’.
Its two main principles are: -
- Law of Similars
The symptoms that a substance produce in a healthy individual are the same symptoms that it can cure in a diseased person. What is toxic in large doses can be therapeutic in minute doses.
- Law of Minimum Dose
A homeopathic dose is the minimum therapeutic dose needed to start off the process of cure, after which the body’s innate defense mechanism takes over.
Some of the distinct advantages of Homœopathy are:-
- Truly holistic approach
Homœopathy does not treat the disease in man, but the man in disease.
Disease is the sum total of disturbance that occurs at a deeper dynamic level. The root cause of disturbance / ailment is determined by a homoeopath after a thorough case taking which helps in prescribing a highly individualised customised remedy.
- Completely natural sources
Homœopathic remedies are derived from substances extracted from plants, minerals and animals. They are different from herbal medicines as homœopathic doses contain very little of material substance after a thorough process of dilution called as potentisation. This increases the molecular energy of the substance & its therapeutic power.
- No toxic side effects
As the remedies are wholly natural & highly diluted, the chances of developing any side effects are practically negligible.
- Safe for all age groups:
It is the most patient-friendly method of treatment that is safe for all and especially for pregnant women, children and old people.
- Multi-pronged efficacy
Homœopathic medicines can be used for a variety of ailments as the primary line of treatment, as a backup treatment and in emergency and surgical interventions. It is also an effective supportive treatment in severe infectious & debilitating diseases like TB, HIV & Cancer.
Homœopathy is a full time medical course, parallel to the mainstream medical course. It includes clinical subjects like anatomy, physiology, medicine, surgery, gynaecology & homœopathic subjects like materia medica, Organon of medicine & Homœopathic repertory.
